This document was designed for a NSW school's grade 7 students as part of an education unit on Super Heroes centred around a case study examining the film 'Big Hero 6' and the design process involved in developing the unique look for characters, use of Design Theory including Shape Language and Colour Theory.
In what would have normally been lesson content delivered over a term-long period of 10 weeks, due to lockdowns during the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, this document was assembled using examples from artists and character designers from the design team to deliver a simplified and summarised collection of information for students to use while completing related lessons during remote learning. This provided a particular challenge as visual literacy in Australia is not taught effectively in many classroom settings in a relevant style to the growing global industry. Trying to provide succinct and helpful information reduced into easy-to-consume chunks for students of a 7th grade (stage 4) level while also capturing the curriculum outcomes for an entire 10-week term of work required feedback, adjustment and review at many stages in the process.
